Both the names Goodridge and Goodrich can be traced from the Norman Conquest down through the counties of Devon, Soverset, Lincoln, York, Cambridge, Norfolk, Suffolk, Middlesex to Bury St. Edmunds, and on to the Massachusetts Bay Colony and Connecticut Colony. The first record of John and William is July 25 1636 in a land division in Watertown, MA. Watertown was first called Dorchester Fields.
William Goodridge - Homestall - 5 acre lot not from from North West boundary to Mt. Auburn cemetary in Watertown. The graveyard is first mentioned 5 Jul 1642 adjacent to the meetinghouse at the South East corner of Mt. Auburn and Grove St. William Goodridge is buried here, but the markings have disappeared.
William settled in Watertown, MA with his wife and daughter in 1636. In Bury St. Edmunds they were called Gutridge, in Watertown Gutteridge and later Goodridge. At his death he owned 43 acres, buildings, etc. He was a Freeman as of May 1642.
